The Lansing Oar and Paddle Club (LOAPC, pronounced “lop-see”) is a social club and community service organization for people in mid-Michigan who are interested in kayaking and canoeing. Since 1987 we’ve been a resource for people in greater Lansing who want to get out on the water.

LOAPC’s programs are designed to serve two groups of people: those who already have their own equipment and are already paddling, and people who are thinking about getting started in paddling and need support.

* If you’re already paddling, we coordinate a number of self-guided paddling trips throughout the year. “Self-guided trips” means you’re responsible for your own safety and for bringing your own equipment. There is no charge for these outings. We ask only that you sign a waiver form before participating. Club membership isn’t a requirement to participate, although we hope that you’ll enjoy us so much that you’ll want to join and take advantage of what we have to offer.

* If you’re thinking about getting started in paddling, we can serve as a resource to help you find out where to go, decide what kind of equipment to buy, and make sure you paddle safely. Our membership and leadership includes many friendly, knowledgable paddlers who love to share their knowledge and answer questions.

LOAPC emphasizes safe paddling practices. Our winter programs always include one seminar on water safety. Our other seminars are usually travelogues on great places to paddle, here in Michigan, throughout the United States, and abroad.

Club dues are $10 per full year ($5 for July-December) and give you access to our quarterly newsletter and paddlers’ bulletin board. Other resources for paddlers, including maps and directions, will be added as time and volunteer resources permit.

Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions. We hope to see you on the water!
